We made another road trip up to Virginia for the child to visit Kings Dominion. My father-in-law drove, as he has in the past. So, we arrived before they opened and had to wait about 20 mins. It was lightly-raining just after we arrived, and wondered if we were going to be rained out. We had postponed going by one day due to the wet weather.

But within 30 mins of the gates opening, the rain stopped. It stayed overcast most of the day, which was a blessing of sorts. The sun came out around 3:30, and it never got uncomfortable.

My daughter had reached the next “ride level” based on height, so this was a good and bad thing. Good she could get in some new rides, but bad due to her being “too tall” for some of the kiddie rides she enjoyed.

The cool and overcast weather prevented us from doing water rides, which was a bummer for my daughter — but rather not get the kid sick if we can help it. Hopefully or next visit will include a fun visit to the water rides, as well as the ones we got to ride this year.

Hmmm. This seems to be an unposted entry … but there is no content.

But it is July 4th again!

I plan on doing some simple fireworks with my daughter tonight, once it gets dark. We have sparklers, and a few fireworks that will spray “colors”. So, I’m sure it will be a night of excitement for her.

Unforutnately, other members of my family (the dogs) don’t enjoy the noise — so they will be scared to death until 1-2 a.m. as random people around the neighborhood continue to fire off their fireworks into the early morning.

Well, this is old news now … but figured I should write about it nevertheless.

I started working for the State of NC in the Information Technology Services agency. The group I’m in is responsible for support Unix servers — primarily Solaris.

I began the new job at the end of January, and have been busy with it all the time.

I worked on updating our servers for Dailylight Savings Time changes as my first project. I then had the opportunity to attend Solaris 10 and Solaris Sun Cluster training soon after. I’m now working on a project involving a number of state agencies, the project is called BEACON.

It keeps me quite busy, but the work environment is enjoyable. They even support alternative work schedules (AWS). AWS allows  you to work out a schedule, whereas you can take a day off every two weeks in addition to your normal weekends. So, it is nice to be able to work in an extra day.
